Bank Melli Iran has launched an online platform that allows passengers to pay departure tax. According to Masoud Khatouni, director of CBI’s IT department, currently the platform can be used only for departure from Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran, but it will be available for all other departure points in a month, Tasnim News Agency reported on Wednesday. The departure tax in Iran is set at 750,000 rials ($19) for tourists and 370,000 rials ($9.5) for pilgrimages. Khatouni noted that the new service eases the process of leaving the country, as those who pay online only need to provide their ID number to the related officer. Formerly, travelers had to show their bank receipts to prove the payment of departure tax.
