The Middle East’s largest carmaker, Iran Khodro (IKCO), said it annually exports 20,000 automobiles to Iraq, IRIB News reported. Gholamreza Mehdizadeh, IKCO’s director of exports to Middle East said the company’s cars are exported to the neighboring country through Mehran border in the form of completely knock down (CKD) kits and also completely built units (CBU). He said the officials in the border province of Ilam have taken measures to facilitate car exports. Saipa, another major automaker also exports over 30,000 cars to Iraq every year. Iran’s carmakers are planning to start the export of auto parts to Iraq in the near future. IKCO is also constructing a new car factory in the city of Alexandria, south of Baghdad, which would manufacture 60 cars a day.
