Bank Melli Iran has paid 18.5 trillion rials ($576 million at market exchange rate) to 2,114 small- and medium-sized enterprises since April, in line with the government’s plans to revive struggling SMEs. BMI has also financed the establishment of four major projects across the country worth 2.6 trillion rials ($81 million), the bank’s public relations office announced on Tuesday. The other state-owned Bank of Industry and Mine also announced that it has paid 14 trillion rials ($425.8 million) to 1,050 industrial units since the beginning of the fiscal year in March 2016. BMI loans have been paid as part of the government’s plan for reviving semi-active businesses across the country, the Economy Ministry’s news website, SHADA, reported.
