Plans are underway to build a chromite concentrate plant in Kerman Province, the managing director of South Kerman Industries, Mining and Trade Organization announced. “The plant will produce 20,000 tons of chromite concentrate per year and requires over $880,000 of investment,” Mahmoud Eskandari-Nasab added. According to the official, the construction process will commence this week, Minews reported. Chromite is the most industrially important mineral for the production of metallic chromium and used as an alloying ingredient in stainless and tool steels. Kerman Province is Iran’s largest chromite ore producer and holds close to 70% of the country’s 10-million-ton reserves. The province also exports 260,000 tons of the mineral annually.
