The Cabinet has decided to slash taxes on research projects down to 5%, says the head of Iran’s National Tax Administration. The bill for the tax cut is being prepared to be sent to the parliament for approval, ILNA also quoted Kamel Taqavinejad as saying. Currently, research projects carried out by university faculty members are taxed at 10%, while the rate doubles for studies by non-faculty members. INTA has proposed this bill to support research in line with the government’s push toward spurring a knowledge-based economy as per the guidelines of the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
