Upendra Kumar Sinha, the head of India’s markets regulator, is touring Iran’s securities markets with two of his deputies along with India’s Ambassador to Iran Saurabh Kumar.

The officials met with Securities and Exchange Organization Chief Shapour Mohammadi on Monday and with Chief Executive of Iran Mercantile Exchange Hamed Soltan-Nejad on Tuesday.

Sinha expressed his interest in increasing collaboration between the two regulators and proposed signing memorandums of understanding for cooperation on infrastructure and regulations.

Mohammadi asked Sinha to help speed up SEO’s conversion from an associate member to a full member of International Organization of Securities Commissions, which regulates many of the world’s securities and futures markets.

Indian financial markets are regulated by Securities and Exchange Board of India.
