The eleventh International Conference of Coasts, Ports, and Marine Structures (ICOPMAS 2014) will kick off in Tehran’s Hotel Olympic on November 24, IRNA reported.

Professors from Canada’s McMaster University, Lund University of Sweden, Waseda University of Japan, Roma Tre University of Italy, Plymouth Marine Laboratory of England, Australia’s University of Queensland, and University of Western Australia are among the keynote speakers of the conference.

The main subjects to be discussed in the event include hydrodynamic and marine engineering; ports and coastal management; ports and coastal engineering; offshore engineering and pipelines; and marine environment and safety, according to the conference website.

The motto of the conference is “coastal strip, opportunities and challenges” and it will focus on boosting technical and specialized cooperation among the participating countries, the secretary of the conference announced.

The first International conference on ports and marine structures was held at Tehran University in 1990.

As one of the oldest scientific events in the Persian Gulf region, ICOPMAS provides an appropriate ground for the exchange of the latest scientific innovations and technical achievements by gathering engineers, designers, scientists and researchers in the fields of coasts, ports and marine structures.

The conference is also considered to be a think tank for the improvement of the knowledge of coasts and ports engineering. In addition, ICOPMAS acts as an international forum for experts and opens up new horizons for students to get familiar with new research areas as well as the latest approaches of marine society.
