Sarcheshmeh and Miduk copper complexes produced 95,472 tons of copper cathodes in the first half of the current fiscal year (started March 20), registering a 1.7% rise in production volume compared with the similar period of last year, according to data published by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization. Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex accounted for 64,111 tons of the total sum and Miduk Copper Complex produced 24,190 tons. Based on the goals envisioned in the 20-Year Vision Plan (2005-25), copper cathode output is stipulated to reach 800,000 tons per year. Iran is the leading copper producer in the Middle East and North Africa region, as it holds close to 14% of Asia’s copper deposits and about 3% of global reserves. The country holds about 4 billion tons of estimated reserves, according to the Geological Survey of Iran.
