Iran Veterinary Organization has never issued a permit for the production of organic chicken, which means the country does not produce organic chicken, an official with the organization said.
Organic chicken must be fed organic food (with no pesticides or chemicals in their water or feed).
“As we speak, there is no chicken production as such, but we do have farming of antibiotic-free chicken,” Abbas Abbasi was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.
“Antibiotic-free chicken (known as “green” chicken in Iran) are never given or treated with antibiotics and are usually 20-25% higher in price.”
According to Abbasi, the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, Fars and Gilan are the main producers of antibiotic-free chicken in Iran.
Iran exported about 40,000 tons of chicken to eight countries in the first five months of the current Iranian year (started March 20), Fars News Agency quoted Deputy Agriculture Minister Hassan Rokni as saying.
