Iran is planning to construct 700 kilometers of suburban railroads, according to CEO of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, Mohsen Pourseyyed Aqaei. “The cities of Tehran and Ahvaz are top priorities for the development of suburban railroads,” he was quoted as saying by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development’s news service. The government plans to host 7 million passengers using commuter trains in the next fiscal year (March 2016-17). Some 4.5 million passengers used suburban rail services last year, up from 2 million in the previous year. “All major cities will be equipped with suburban trains,” Aqaei was earlier quoted as saying.
