The subsidiaries of National Iranian Copper Industries Company, including Sungun, Miduk and Sarcheshmeh copper complexes, extracted more than 64.4 million tons of copper ore in the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 20-August 21), which indicates a 7.1% decline compared with last year’s corresponding period. Iran holds over 2 billion tons of proven copper reserves and close to 4 million tons of estimated reserves, according to the Geological Survey of Iran. The country is home to 14% of Asia’s copper deposits and about 3% of global reserves, IRNA reported.
