The 25th Persian Handmade Carpet Grand Exhibition, which is considered the biggest event in its kind worldwide, opened on Monday in Tehran at the Permanent International Fairgrounds, Iran’s largest exhibition center.
The Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and head of Iran’s National Carpet Center, Hamid Kargar were present.
More than 700 producers and exporters are taking part in the exhibition which has been organized with the aim of introducing the industry and its capacities, paving the way for domestic and foreign investments, increasing exports, creating jobs and finding solutions to production problems, ISNA reported.
The event will run until August 28.
Iran’s handmade carpet exports during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 20-June 20), stood at $83 million, a 39.5% increase compared to the same period last year, Kargar said earlier, noting that the United States was a major buyer of Iranian rugs, accounting for $27 million during the four months.
