Iran’s Ferrochrome Seeks to Increase Global Market Share

Iran seeks to increase its share of global ferrochrome markets in light of China cutting down on production capacities in some of its industrial sectors, including ferrochrome, and the country’s need to import the alloy, said Mohammad Reza Pirhassanlou, managing director of Joghatai Ferrochrome Complex. According to the official, Iran annually exports close to 10,000 tons of ferrochrome to Belgium, the Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, Armenia and China, Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization reported on its website. Ferrochrome is an alloy of chromium and iron produced through electric arc carbothermic reduction of chromite. The alloy is primarily used in the production of steel, especially stainless steel.
