More than 34 tons of saffron worth $48 million were exported during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 2016-17), which indicates a 2% decline in value compared with last year’s corresponding period, according to the deputy head of National Saffron Council, Gholamreza Miri. “Though the global price of saffron has slightly declined over the past month, there are no fluctuations at present and all is well with the market condition,” he was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. More than 350 tons of saffron were grown in Iran last year, indicating a 25% rise as compared to a year before, of which 130 tons were exported.
