Iran exported more than 2,000 tons of carpets worth $66 million during the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started March 20), the head of Iran’s National Carpet Center said.
“The figure shows a 120% rise in terms of weight and about 40% growth in terms of value compared with last year’s corresponding period,” Mehr News Agency quoted Hamid Kargar as saying.
According to an IRNA report, the return of unsold Iranian hand-woven carpets by foreign importers will now be exempt from customs duties provided their authenticity is verified.
The order for exemption has been notified by First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance and the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration for implementation, IRNA reported.
