A top official has said Sarakhs Special Economic Zone needs more investment in infrastructure if it is to attract foreign investors. Despite having a natural gas refinery and an airport, other infrastructural developments such as the Sarakhs-Mashhad highway must be finished first, Valiollah Afkhami-rad, the head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, said as reported by IRNA. The zone located in northeastern Iran borders Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. It is considered the gateway to the heart of Central Asia.
