In a bid to expand free trade zones across the country, the government has already approved plans to establish new zones in Jask Port, Hormozgan Province and in Boushehr city, Boushehr Province, according to Secretary of Free Zones Coordination Council Akbar Torkan.
Sarakhs, Dogharun, Lotf Abad, Bajgiran and Incheh Borun are among other regions nominated by the government to be turned to a free trade zone.
Incheh Borun -- located in Dashli Borun District, Gonbad-e Qabus, Golestan Province -- has great potential to be connected to neighboring Kazakhstan through railway. Torkan said the region is a priority to become a free trade zone, as reported by Donyay-e Eghtesad. “In such case, the ground for establishing a Metallurgy City in Golestan Province will also be paved.”
President Rouhani’s chief advisor also said that the plan to unify Rasht Airport and Anzali Free Trade Zone, both located in northern Iran, is already underway.
The regulations for each region will be set in accordance to their potentials, Torkan noted. “If the rules are consistent with the geopolitical situation of the region, the trading process will expand to the neighboring countries as well.”
