A total of 5,050 units of Sistan-Baluchestan Province’s Mehr Housing Projects were delivered at a ceremony this week. Ahmad Asghari, deputy minister of roads and urban development for Mehr Housing Scheme affairs, said 2.52 trillion rials ($83.4 million) were spent for construction of the projects, Bank Maskan’s website reported. From the total 25,400 planned units in the province, 19,017 are ready and the remaining are under construction. The low-cost housing project was initiated in 2007 by the previous administration to provide two million homes to the poor through free land and cheap credits. However, the nationwide scheme later slowed down due to lack of funding and was also blamed for the galloping inflation.
