The governor of the Central Bank of Iran has called for joint meetings between Iranian and Japanese banks to improve relations and enhance financial and commercial cooperation. Valiollah Seif said in a meeting with Katsuyuki Kawai, an adviser to Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday that Japan is an important partner for Iran in East Asia and banking relations could strengthen two-way ties,” IRNA reported.  Even during the sanctions, Japan had allowed three special banking channels for Iran to purchase medicine, he said. The three major Japanese banks kept their offices in Iran during the sanctions, which, he said “meant a lot” to Iran. Seif also invited Bank of Japan’s governor to Iran.
