Bankers’ Gratitude

The Coordination Council of State-Owned Banks and Iranian Private Banks Association, in an open letter on Saturday, commended President Hassan Rouhani and the nuclear negotiating team for their success in helping end the international economic sanctions. Referring to their efforts in helping the domestic economy during the sanction years, the bankers said they are able and willing to likewise in the new and emerging era, Khabaronline.ir reported.  Iranian banks, their overseas branches and affiliates were officially removed from SWIFT’s ban list on January 17, following the lifting of the sanctions on January 16.  The sanctions imposed on Iran’s banking system disconnected Iranian lenders from the global interbank messaging system, SWIFT, resulting in the isolation of Iran’s banking industry from the international banking arena.
