Data released by the Central Bank of Iran show that the banking sector has issued 368 million cards (including debit, credit and gift cards) in the period from November 2004 up until October 2015. According to the bank’s latest e-banking report, Tehran Province accounted for the majority of the cards, with 32.7% or 120.2 million of the total cards issued. Bank Saderat was the most prolific, issuing 14.8% of the cards followed closely by Bank Mellat at 14.3% Bank Tejarat 11.4%. During the period, 42,350 ATMs were installed across the country, 15.3% of which are owned by Bank Melli Iran -- the largest government-owned bank.
