Customers have deposited 4.2 trillion rials ($ 140.5 million) in Bank Maskan’s special Housing Savings Account created for first-time home buyers, Mohammad Hasan Moradi, director of the bank’s department of planning said. The figure shows that on average 135 new accounts were opened everyday amounting to 24.4 billion rials ($ 815,000). The same figure for the capital Tehran stands at 5,620 accounts amounting to 1.5 trillion rials ($50 million) which shows an average of 42 accounts per day. In towns with a population of more than 200,000, first-time homebuyers opened 11,325 accounts equal to 2.06 trillion rials ($ 69 million).
