The High Council of Architecture and Urban Development is considering a plan to ban construction of high-rises on land smaller than 5,000 square meters, the deputy minister of roads and urban development, Pirooz Hanachi, said.  Many towers in urban areas have been built in violation of building regulations set by the council, IRNA quoted him as saying Saturday. The council requires builders to present their plans/designs for constructing buildings over 12 stories to be reviewed from different aspects. In Tehran alone, there are more than 150,000 buildings that lack the needed standards, he complained. Hanachi added that illegally built skyscrapers would be deprived of certain facilities.
