Ana Kimia Manganese Company, the first producer of potassium permanganate in the Middle East, was inaugurated in the city of Zanjan on Saturday in the presence of First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri, Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and the company’s CEO Reza Hedayati. “Iran’s potassium permanganate demand is 4,500 tons per year, while Ana Kimia Manganese Company is capable of annually producing 6,000 tons of this commodity to easily meet the domestic demand,” IRNA quoted Hedayati as saying. According to Hedayati, the technology required for production of potassium permanganate has so far been only at the disposal of Germany, the United States and India, and Iran has recently joined the ranks of these countries by purchasing the technology from India. The company was established with an investment of more than $10 million in an area of 71,000 square meters and has so far created about 100 jobs.The raw materials needed for production of potassium permanganate are manganese dioxide and potassium hydroxide, which are imported from South Korea and India. Potassium permanganate is mainly used in oxidation and disinfection processes, as well as purification of drinking water through removal of phosphorus.
