The government plans to purchase 500 short, middle and long-range passenger planes by 2025, Mehr News Agency quoted Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi as saying on Friday. According to the minister, the government has already started negotiating with “world’s top plane manufacturers” to rejuvenate Iran’s aging air fleet once western sanctions imposed against the country over its nuclear energy program are lifted. Giant planemakers Airbus and Boeing are the main contenders preparing to sell aircraft to Iran.
