The mining sector, if developed and promoted, can help the government in achieving the 8% economic growth rate envisioned in the sixth five-year development plan (2016-21), said head of Iran’s House of Industries, Mining and Trade Mohammad Reza Bahraman at the Third National Conference On Mining And Mining Industries last week. “According to the results of a joint study program on the mining sector’s potential in creating employment opportunities undertaken by Iran’s House of Industries, Mining and Trade and Canada’s McGill University, each job opportunity created in Iran’s mining sector would lead to the creation of 24 employment opportunities in other sectors, underlining the potential of the mining sector in the country,” ISNA quoted Bahraman as saying. The official also pointed to the mining sector’s potential to replace oil revenues and called on the government for further support, saying that the mining sector has a fundamental role in Resistance Economy—a set of guidelines proposed by the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei aimed at reducing reliance on oil revenues and boosting domestic production.
