An aerial geophysical surveying project to explore mines in East Azarbaijan Province has been launched. Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh on Saturday attended the opening ceremony of the project, which is also aimed at exploring mines in West Azarbaijan and Ardabil provinces. The project entails systematic collection of geophysical data by helicopter and airplane, with the aim of exploring and measuring mineral deposits hidden in the mine-rich northwestern regions. The project will use two methods of “airborne gamma-ray spectrometry” (radiometric) and “airborne magnetic surveying”. Aerial surveying is of utmost importance in mine exploration as the practice makes it possible to cover vast and rugged mountainous terrains rapidly and steadily. The ongoing project seeks to survey 100,000 kilometers of land in the three provinces within a year.
