Only 30% to 40% of tools and fittings in the Iranian market are produced domestically, Mohammad Taheri, an industrial designing instructor, told IRNA. According to the expert, the high cost of moulding discourages domestic producers of tools, fittings and accessories from taking risks. He said the market is awash with products such as door handles imported from Italy, Turkey, Germany and China. “Due to the limited range of designs, domestic manufacturers only export their products to few countries including Iraq and the CIS, while penetration in the Persian Gulf markets requires more elegant designs. During the past few years, the slump in the domestic construction market has hit toolmakers and they are in dire need of facilities to survive.
