The western Kurdistan Province accounts for 10 percent of Iran’s gold mine reserves, Mehr News Agency quoted head of Kurdistan’s Industry, Mine and Trade Organization, Mohammad Dare Vazami, as saying on Thursday. “All the gold mines in the province are currently active,” said the official, noting that proper utilization of this capacity will lead to an increase in Kurdistan’s gold production as well as creation of numerous job opportunities in the province. He estimated the province’s overall mineral reserves to be around 600 million tons, noting that the government is determined to help increase private investment in the mining sector to help the industry exploit its full potential.
