New Steel Complex in Mokran

According to the head of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), a consortium composed of IMIDRO, private sector companies, and Chabahar Free Trade and Industrial Zone Organization has signed the contract to build a steel complex in Mokran in the southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Eghtesad-News reported. Mehdi Karbasian, who is also the deputy minister of industry, mine and trade, says the complex will produce iron ore pellet with facilities for direct reduction, steelmaking, hot-rolling and rolling steel sections. The first phase of the complex will produce 1.6 million tons of sponge iron per year, the contractor of which is an Iranian company. Mokran Complex enjoys numerous advantages, including proximity to international waters and access to water resources.
