According to Minister of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare, Ali Rabi'ie, last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20), mining accidents decreased by 40% compared to the previous year, IRNA reported. "Although the mining machinery and equipment in Iran are generally old, the number of per capita accidents in the country is not more than those in the US as a developed country. The number of accidents in Turkey is even more," he noted. According to the minister, smart monitoring systems, air conditioning systems, and conveyor belts need to be replaced or upgraded in the domestic mining sector. Rabi'ie also cited statistics provided by the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization, which showed mining accidents decreased by 4.3% during the first three quarters of last year in comparison with the similar period a year before.
