Officials from the Central Bank of Iran and the ministry of economy met on Wednesday with the CEOs of several commercial banks in Tehran to discuss banking reforms. The meeting, held in the central building of Bank Sepah, was aimed to address the main challenges facing the banking system. The director general of the research and risk management office of Bank Sepah, Mehdi Hosseini, said officials seek to reform the monetary system, operations and structures, Akhbar Bank news website reported. Once implemented, he said the plan would bring more independence to the CBI from the government, reform the ownership and management structure of banks, and provide an integrated e-banking system. The strategic council of the ministry of economic affairs and finance is set to be in charge of the plan, which is expected to be outlined in six months' time.
