Iran is the world’s fourth producer ceramic tiles and the fourth exporter to Asian and Middle Eastern countries, deputy minister of industry, mine, and trade, Ali-Asqar Tofiq said on the sidelines of the 1st International Conference on Advanced Ceramics in Alborz Province, IRNA reported. “As many as 10 universities and 15 research centers in Iran are carrying out research to on industrial ceramic tiles,” he said, adding that currently two research projects are being conducted by the industry ministry and the Materials and Energy Research Center on development of advanced industrial tiles. Iran exports around 450 to 500 million square meters of ceramic tiles annually, majority of which is to Iraq and Afghanistan.
