During a ceremony to mark the achievements of Bank Maskan (Housing Bank), minister of roads and urban development, Abbas Akhundi said the true potentiality of the bank has not been realized yet. Akhundi urged the housing bank to embark on a grander task than just acting as a “bureau de change”. He added that the housing bank has been established not as a “commercial bank”, but rather as a tool to expedite the national development. Akhundi further outlined the future plan for Bank Maskan, saying his ministry is working to turn the bank into an “instrument for executing the policies of government in the housing sector”, economic news website Pool News reported. Addressing the complicated issues facing the housing market would be part of the new mission of the bank, he said.
