The members of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (TCCIM) elected Mas’oud Khansari – the sole candidate running in the election – as the new chairman, IRNA reported on Saturday.
The decision was made by 55 members of the TCCIM who also elected the members of the board of directors. Mehdi Jahangiri and Ala’ Mirmohammad-Sadeqi were also elected as the deputy chairmen of the TCCIM, which was formerly chaired for two four-year terms by Yahya Ale Es’haq, a former commerce minister.
The TCCIM is willing to form a committee to facilitate foreign investment and aims to prepare the ground for more interaction between the government and the private sector, said Khansari after the result was out.
“Despite all the economic problems, the TCCIM has made progress over the past four years”, the new TCCIM chairman said.
According to Khansari – former chairman of the TCCIM transportation committee – the new TCCIM term has coincided with a new era of economic developments in the country. He emphasized that the political developments in the international arena are in Iran’s favor and that huge investments are anticipated to be made in the country once the western sanctions are lifted.
