More than 17.5 million metric tons of cement and clinker – the raw material to produce cement – were exported during the past 11 months of the current Iranian year (to end March 20), according to a report published by the ministry of industry, mine, and trade.

Cement accounted for 11.8 million tons or 67% of the export while the remaining was clinker. Meanwhile, more than 49.1 million tons of cement was supplied to the domestic markets during the same period, IRNA reported.

Cement exports are expected to reach 18 million tons by the end of the current year, indicating a marginal difference compared to last year. Iran is the fourth global cement producer and the biggest producer in the Middle East. Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Iraq are the main export markets for the Iranian cement. However, cement exports to Iraq ebbed away over the past year in light of the insecurity and political situation in the neighboring country.
