The latest edition of Iran’s National Web Festival kicked off at the Shahid Beheshti campus, in northern Tehran, on Sunday.

Two main speakers of this year’s event were Jaques Van Niekerk, the CEO of Acceleration, a UK-based tech firm, and Farshad Nowshadi of Saman Bank. Many companies also had booths in the conference hall highlighting their companies’ latest offerings.

This year’s event has surpassed any previous internet-related show with many more startup companies and investors from home and abroad looking for the next Digikala, Iran’s largest and most successful online store.

The Financial Tribune spoke with one international visitor from Singapore who said, “I’ve heard many interesting things about the Iranian startup industry so I thought I would visit this year.”

Yesterday’s speeches most commonly referenced topics were teamwork and applications or “apps”, many of the speakers highlighted the ease of use of entering the industry, as if to promote their own businesses. Avatech’s Mohsen Maliyeri said that Avatech’s success so far this year was down to each startup’s own teamwork which was a main prerequisite to make a good company.

The event this year has many sponsors, including Pars Online, Anetwork and Sarava Pars, the Iran’s first investment company funding the country’s online community. Other companies sponsoring the event included Digikala and Rahnema.com, a holding company to Iran’s growing smartphone audio industry.

The two-day event was set to close on Monday.
