    Rouhani Inaugurates Mashhad Subway Intersection

    During a public event, President Hassan Rouhani on Monday morning officially inaugurated a major subway line intersection in the holy city of Mashhad.

    On the second day of his trip to the country’s second-largest city, Rouhani expressed content with the city’s metro system and the interchange which now links the subway system’s two lines, giving the residents enhanced access to destinations.

    During the event held in Shariati station, Mashhad Mayor Qasem Taqizadeh Khamesi said the intersection has been built with the support of the government and the metropolis’ city council.

    The amount spent on the project totals five trillion rials ($119 million). He added, “The city’s second line is currently under construction. The line spans 14.5 kilometers from the end of north Tabarsi Boulevard to Pirouzi Boulevard.”

    A ten-kilometer stretch of the line is currently operational. Mashhad subway system hosts 160,000 commuters on a daily basis. The newly-opened intersection is expected to lead to a surge in the figure.
