Tehran Municipality submitted a bill to the city council on Wednesday, proposing a rise in bus and taxis fares. Mohammad Karroubi, secretary of Tehran City Council’s Transportation Commission, says the bill allows for an average increase of 15% in ticket prices for the private bus fleet and 10% for public buses, ISNA reported. The parameters for calculating taxi fares have also been revised in the bill, suggesting a rise in prices during extreme weather conditions and traffic congestions. Moreover, the current method for calculating taxi fares is to charge a fee for entry and a fixed distance and after exceeding the fixed distance, the fare would be collected according to the distance traveled. In the proposed bill, the entry fee is only for setting foot in the taxi and the passenger is charged based on the traveled distance.
