Iran’s Uber Snapp Digitalizes Recruitment Process

Snapp unveiled an application labeled “Promoter App” to computerize the recruitment process for new drivers.

The application allows field marketers to submit applicant information on the program and upload scanned copies of their documents. The measure is hoped to reduce human error and possible abuse, the company reported in a blog post.

The e-hailing service announced on Tuesday that the app has been on a trial run for three months. It will not be available in app stores and is exclusive to Snapp employees.

Two levels of access are created for the software. The first level is limited to field marketers who install the program on smartphones approved by the company.

The field marketers upload applicant documents that are reviewed by employment evaluation experts who ensure the information given by the candidates are compatible with their documents and inspect the applicant’s vehicle, if necessary.

The information is authenticated a second time in Snapp offices before recruitment takes place. After the drivers begin work, they are assessed on a regular basis, according to passenger feedback.

If the feedback is not positive, three different approaches are taken accordingly. The first calls for giving a reminder to the driver. The second approach is to temporarily deactivate the driver until they undergo a trial period again and the third approach is to sack the driver.

Precautionary measures have been undertaken following public protests over cases of harassment reported by passengers. Since then, the police have taken charge of conducting background checks for all candidates. The digitalized process will also help reduce misuse on the part of marketers.

Uber, the app replicated by Snapp, also uses online registration as the first step for recruitment. The only difference is that individuals can upload their documents themselves and field marketers are not involved in the process.

Snapp is currently offering services in 17 cities. It reports having 300,000 plus drivers working for it and over 10 million registered users.

The company says it receives over 1 million trip requests daily, of which at least 800,000 get through.
