A fire was reported at the Tabriz factory of Iran Khodro (ICKO) on Sunday afternoon with large plumes of smoke bellowing across the sky, according to several reports.

Fire crews responded to the blaze immediately after calls to emergency services of a large fire in the vicinity of the car making facility, Mehr News Agency reported.

The fire was first reported just after 9:00 am local time and the blaze put out around 11:00 am.

IKCO Tabriz officials said that none of the company’s production lines were affected by the blaze nor were workers injured.

The fire is believed to have ignited following strong winds which sent sparks flying across a waste disposal area of the site.

Safety issues in Iran’s factories are a serious concern.

Many of the car assembly lines are well over 30 years old and not modernized due to lack of funds and the international sanctions that were eased in January 2016.
