Renault Pars, a local subsidiary of the French carmaker says it will upgrade the transmission system used in three models.

According to a press release from the company, Renault’s JHQ gearboxes used in Sandero Stepway, will also be used in the production of Tondar 90 (third generation Renault Logan), Tondar 90 Plus (jointly produced with Iran Khodro) and Sandero.

Previously, Renault’s JH3 gearboxes were used in the three models.

The JHQ gearboxes are produced at a local production plant called Charkheshgar which is majority-owned by Iran Khodro Diesel, a subsidiary of Iran Khodro Group.

Renault launched the manufacturing plant in collaboration with Iran’s largest auto manufacturer IKCO and the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO).

Charkheshgar previously produced commercial vehicles, including several models of Mercedes-Benz trucks and tractors under the company’s license.

Under the new joint venture between Renault and IDRO, the production line has been refitted to produce Renault’s JHQ transmissions. The new line will enable the Charkheshgar plant to produce all Renault’s J-series gearboxes as part of that company’s plans to expand operations in Iran.

With an annual production capacity of 300,000 units, Iran will be the third country to produce JHQ gearboxes in the world, giving it a better leverage in selling the product in the international market.
