Following a denial by a senior Khodro Sazi Sina executive that his company had won a contract against Mammut Khodro to produce Volkswagen vehicles in Iran, the German automaker has responded with the same bemusement to Financial Tribune request for further information. The original report on April 25 on Press TV website wrongly quoted an official from VW saying that they had signed a deal to produce cars with commercial VW importer Khodro Sazi Sina. VW’s response is as follows; “The English text you sent us quotes a Volkswagen announcement. There was no announcement of Volkswagen or its partner. In the Iranian original text there was a third party quoted. As a general policy Volkswagen does not comment on speculations by third parties.” The confusion follows months of negotiations by Mammut Khodro which sealed a deal in 2016 to produce VW-branded cars in Iran. The CEO and owner of Mammut Group, Mehrzad Ferdos told reporters at the time, “A deal has been concluded between Mammut and the German automaker Volkswagen.” Meanwhile on Saturday ISNA reported that VW executives were travelling around Iran looking at ways to develop car engines that run on compressed natural gas (CNG).
