 Since the start of the fiscal year last March, the number of vehicles shipped to and from Shahid Bahonar Port more than doubled compared to the previous year.

A total of 32,313 units were handled via the port in the period, up 89% year-on-year, said the head of the region's ports and maritime organization Mohammad Mohseni.

Regarding tonnage of the cars handled by the port, the official said 33,595 tons of cars were shipped through the harbor -- an 85% increase compared to the year before, IRIB News reported. 

He added that inbound automotive shipments mostly came from Sharjah and were headed to Turkey, Iraq, and Turkmenistan. 

Shahid Bahonar port is located in Bandar Abbas, Hormuzgan Province south of Iran and is one of the main shipping and transit points.
