Land Rover has announced plans to give the original Range Rover the same restoration treatment as it gave to the Series 1 Land Rover last year, creating the Range Rover Reborn.

An initial batch of ten examples of the original Range Rover will be comprehensively restored, offering prospective customers the chance to buy a version of the original Range Rover brand new and straight from Land Rover, Auto Express reported on February 6.

Finished in Bahamas Gold with a tan cloth and leather interior, a 3.5-litre carburetor fed V8 sits under the bonnet, producing 132bhp and 251Nm of torque – the same figures as the original Rover V8 engined car. All four wheels are driven through a four-speed manual gearbox and a lockable central differential.

Every Range Rover Reborn completed by Land Rover Classic will begin in the hands of an experienced restoration team who’ll work with customers to find the best possible base vehicles for the restoration process.

Customers will be advised on collectability, unique characteristics of their chosen base Range Rovers and preferable chassis numbers.

The complete restoration is undertaken to original 1970’s factory specification using Land Rover Classic parts, and prices for ‘Reborn’ Range Rovers will start from £135,000 ($168,000).

Several examples of the car remain on the streets of Iran from their original distributor, with some restored locally. One beige Range Rover model listed on auto sales website bama.ir is currently priced at 270 million rials ($6,920).
