Iran’s largest automaker, Iran Khodro Company has produced 57,879 vehicles and pickup trucks during the last Iranian month (ended August 22).

This has marked the company’s highest record since March 2015.

During the same period last year, 42,449 units were manufactured. The new figure shows a 36% rise in the production rate of IKCO in comparison with the corresponding period last year, a local automotive website, Persian Khodro, reported.

Due to growing market demand in the past month, the production of the car models Tondar 90, Peugeot 405, Peugeot 206 and the pickup truck Arisan grew by 91%, 25%, 11% and 14% respectively.

In the first five months of the current Iranian year that started in March, IKCO manufactured 244,265 vehicles.

The figures show that IKCO’s production has exceeded that of its biggest local rival SAIPA. IKCO produced 45,673 units more than SAIPA in the five-month period.

In the same period, SAIPA, Iran’s second largest auto manufacturer, produced 198,592 units which, compared to the previous year’s 158,506 units, indicates a 25% rise.

SAIPA produced 50,000 units in the Iranian month that ended August 22, breaking its earlier record and marking a 53% rise compared with the same period last year.

According to Hassan Qarei, SAIPA’s director for research and strategic planning, the company is aiming to produce at least 530,000 vehicles this year.
