The first motor tourism rally for women drivers will start on August 24 at Tehran’s Sa’dabad Complex.
Racers will take a route that runs through the provinces of Alborz and Qazvin and eventually ends in Zanjan, the local automotive website Asre Khodro reported.
The event has been organized in collaboration with Sa’dabad Complex, the Touring and Automobile Club of Iran and an unnamed tourism holding.
Abdolreza Eslami, the club’s CEO, said the event is only open for women drivers and there are no precondition on the type of car to enter the race.
The rally is free of charge and organizers have prepared an educational course for ladies willing to participate. The course will be held a week prior to the event and includes courses on map reading and rally driving.
Biyouk Mousavi, the head of Sa’dabad Complex, noted that the event can help promote sport tourism.
According to the organizers, the main goal of the rally is to introduce tourism attractions along this route so that holidaymakers consider travelling to these locations during holidays, instead of going only to the northern regions of Iran and experiencing heavy traffic and frustration.
Roqayeh Hatamipour, one of the rally organizers, listed the checkpoints reviewed on the route.
She said two historical monuments, namely Shah Abbasi Caravanserai and Pearl Palace in Alborz province, as well as Taleqan Dam and Sa’ad-ol-Saltaneh Caravanserai in Qazvin are being considered.
The final destination, Zanjan, will have four checkpoints: Rakhtshouy Khaneh Edifice, Soltaniyeh Dome, Dashkasan Temple and Museum of Saltmen on the west side of the city of Zanjan.
Before returning to Tehran, the racers will also visit Kataleh Khor Cave in Zanjan.
