The latest car production statistics indicate a downward trend in vehicle manufacturing, according to a new report by a local news agency.

The statistics, released by the Ministry of Industries, Trade and Mining, pertain to the first two months of the current Iranian year (started March 20).

The number of passenger cars produced during this period was reported as 145,930 units, down by 3.9% compared to the figures for the same period of the year before, Fars News Agency reported.

Also, a total of 11,384 pickup trucks were made during this time which—unlike other vehicle categories—tells of a 26.6% year-on-year increase.

During the same period, a total of 29 minibuses were produced, marking a 60.8% decline compared to last year’s corresponding figure.

Similarly, with 59 units produced during this time, the production of buses also dropped by 62.4% compared to the previous year.

In addition, 1,169 units of light and medium-duty trucks and haulers were produced in the first two months (ended May 20), marking a 40.9% year-on-year decline.

During this period, production at the country’s largest car manufacturing company, Iran Khodro Company, reaching 80,931 vehicles and registering a decline of 5.5% compared to the year before.

The company produced 77,023 passenger vehicles this year, down by 6.9% year-on-year.   

In this period, the number of passenger cars made at IKCO was reported as 48,330 units, down by 8.7% compared to the year before.

Furthermore, a total of 62,924 cars were produced by Iran’s second largest car manufacturer, SAIPA. This shows a 4.8% year-on-year increase.

A total of 56,840 passenger vehicles were manufactured by SAIPA during this time, up by 4% compared to the year before.   

In the second month of the Iranian year (started April 20), 102,092 vehicles were made. Compared to the same period of last year, the figure indicates a 0.7% decline.

The production of passenger cars during this month declined by 1.8% compared to the previous year.

During this month, 50,884 vehicles were produced at IKCO marking an 8% year-on-year decline.

The production of passenger vehicles increased by 12.7% at SAIPA during this month compared to the same period of the year before.
