The Third Iran International Automotive Conference is scheduled to be held on February 29-March 1 in Tehran.

The event is said to be of high importance, as it is the first of its kind to be held in the post-sanctions era, Mehr News Agency reported.

It presents an ideal opportunity for revving up the auto sector, as more and more foreign carmakers have shown interest in starting business in Iran.  One of the most important issues expected to be highlighted at the event is expansion of exports of auto parts and vehicles.  The event’s main theme is “Competitiveness and International Collaboration.”

To be inaugurated by Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, the confab’s keynote speakers include Deputy Economy Minister Mohammad Khazaei, SAIPA’s President Mehdi Jamali and CEO of Iran Khodro Company Hashem Yekezare.

Additionally, notable foreign speakers are SCANIA’s President Henrik Henriksson, VOLVO CEO Martin Lundstedt and Jean-Christophe Quemard, a member of the managing board of PSA Peugeot Citroen.

Local automotive firms Kerman Motor Company and Bahman Group as well as France’s Renault are some of the distinguished sponsors. The Association of Russian Automakers, Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, Frost and Sullivan are other noteworthy collaborators.

New auto contracts and official statements about the country’s auto future are expected to be announced at the confab.
