American auto manufacturers may enter Iran’s market as long as they meet the “needed criteria”, said a board member of Tehran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture. Mohammad Reza Najafimanesh also stressed that there are no regulations limiting their presence in the Iranian market, IRNA reported. “The import limitations put in place by Iranian regulators are targeted at consumer goods and do not apply to capital goods such as vehicles,” he said.
What it implies is that Iran has not banned the import, assembly or manufacture of American cars, as long as they acquire the permits from related bodies. They should also comply with regulations, such as Euro 4 emission standardsand not having engines larger than 2 liters. Last week, Trade Promotion Organization of Iran released a new set of regulations for the import of Chevrolets. Addressed to Iran Customs Administration, TPO stated that an Iranian company has been permitted to import Chevrolets from South Korea, local automotive website Asre Khodro reported.
